I was introduced to Egyptian cotton sheets by my grandma when I was barely 15 years old. Back then, I had no clue about the importance of Egyptian cotton. As I grew I started to fall in love with my grandma’s sheets. During those days, Egyptian cotton sheets used to be cool, crisp, and extremely luxurious. They had a subtle sheen and they used to last for years. However, with passing times there has been a drastic decline in the quality of these products that were once considered to be a treasured heirloom. The market is full of counterfeit products and the bedding companies have been misleading customers in the name of thread count. I could no more find those simple yet wonderful old country sheets that swished against my skin when I was a kid. This prompted me to start Down Cotton, a company that makes authentic Egyptian cotton bedding by procuring raw materials from traceable sources.

For centuries Egyptian cotton has been known as the "White Gold" of Egypt. Yet, the mainstay of livelihood of millions of farmers has been on a sharp decline. With the government's decision to scrap subsidies for cotton growers, the farmers are in great distress as the subsidy was the difference between breaking even and making a loss.

Down Cotton is proud from having turned cotton farmers into exporters thereby bringing an 80% growth in their income.
